Welcome to Latinas Create: A Reintroduction

WOW. In May, we will hit our 4 year mark! Wild right? I want to pause, regroup, reframe, and reintroduce you to Latinas Create as well as provide more context on myself and my own journey through these years.

In 2019 I was completely lost. Like many of the amazing creator origin stories, I knew I needed to dig myself out of the trenches and I also knew I was a powerful human capable of making true impact. The question was, where was I going to put my efforts? Who was I even without the expectations of society and my preconceived notion of success? The first word that came to mind was Latina. It was the root of many of the struggles in my life like not feeling enough for anyone, but it was also a part of my identity that for whatever reason many didn’t see. I never hid my culture, but as a 5th generation Texan who moved to SF to work in tech in 2016 I was met with the reply of shock when the topic of my being Latina came up—because the last name Campos wasn’t enough of a tell.

Like many of the experiences surrounding my heritage, the interactions left me feeling some type of way. In college, I minored in Ethnic Studies as I wanted to learn more about where racism even began and why it was aimed in my direction—I graduated college in 2010 learning more about myself and the world but still not quite finished with this cultural journey.

So, when the words Latinas Create came to me like lighting I sat on the idea for years. Until 2019 when I decided to commit to the cause. To be very honest, my primary goal at the time was to find a full-time job and Latinas Create was a passion project.

Well, fast-forward to almost 4 years later with 4 million impressions in February alone this passion project is becoming my full-time life. If you’ve followed since the beginning you’d know I’ve announced a step back and that I’m all in before. But this time is different—this time my plan is set, my content is ready, and my commitment to this cause is not wavering. So what does this mean for you, the amazing community who make this all possible!? Glad you asked:
